[...and there he is, sitting in front of a camera. Judging by the slight stutter in frame rate and Corella's own movements, combined with the lowered resolution, one could only surmise that this was shot with a web cam. Wearing a simple white T-shirt and blue jeans, we find Leon wearing an expression that indicated he was none too happy...]
Corella- Ok, let me see if I have this right. Thompson has been fined $1000 for his attack on Beckson and pulled out of the running for the Dangerous Championship despite the fact that he practically worked his ass off for the shot?
[...His brow arched, and he tilted his head a bit...]
...You know, Even if I were looking at this from the perspective of a first time fan watching the program, you also have to take into account what happened earlier in the show. Namely, Bane's insincere apology, and while I hate Dan Clear, it was masterful how he outed just how insincere that "apology" really was.
[...He took in a deep breath and sighed...]
...Thing is, I understand where Thompson is coming from on this. Sure, he made a mistake, and it was a violent one at that, but at the same time there are alot of people who keep up with the show, and they know the score.
This whole situation has just become a major powder keg, especially considering how severe the penalty is. I'm all for the Fine. The fine itself is quite harsh for a young newcomer like Thompson, but fits the "crime". Taking away his opportunity for the Dangerous Championship on the other hand...
[...Crossing his arms over his chest, Corella leaned back in his chair...]
...That is just wrong, and smacks of someone unnecessarily being made an example out of. Beckson is, perhaps, one of the most charged and offensive people in wrestling today, and he has pushed Thompson time and time again.
[...He set his jaw...]
...When you have a man like Bane, insulting entire ethnic and religious groups with each public appearene he makes, threatening our viewership far more than Thompson ever could by brutalizing the man, it just sickens me to see such an injustice done here.
Fine him, he did commit a blatant offense, but don't take away something he's worked so hard for. He will be punishing himself soon enough when he sees the spin campaign that Bane will most likely pull as a result of his actions.
[...Corella sighed softly, looking down and shaking his head...]
At least Thompson stood up and did something about the bastard...
[...He then looked back into the camera...]
...What did the rest of us do while this man went out of his way each and every night to undermine this company's bottom line and hurt our viewership?
Let's use the example that the DCWL Management is going with. Assume you're a first time viewer of the show, and you see this big, menacing bald white man grab a defenseless black woman by her hand, and break the fingerbones in that hand, all the while calling her such colorful phrases as "Jungle Bunny Cunt", and then telling her to get out like a "good little slave". All in front of her son, Jerome, no less.
Now, someone seeing that little scene for the very first time would most likely cause the viewer to turn off the TV or change the channel. However, someone seeing a guy get beat up in a wrestling ring, and get rubbing alcohol poured into his wounds well... that would actually be dismissed pretty quickly and I'll tell you why...
[...Leon held up a finger...]
Most wrestling fans have seen far more brutal and sadistic acts than that occur in the squared circle. I've seen a man get his face split open with a razorwire 2x4, and continue fighting on despite the fact that his eye was threatening to pop out of his head.
I've seen wrestlers get completely doused in gasoline and lit on fire in this business. People have been thrown into trash cans filled with ground glass and rock salt. Ever been hit in the face with a sack with a couple barbwire wrapped wine bottles in it? That's actually happened to me before. Left me a bloody mess.
A real fan, seeing that scene with Thompson pouring alcohol into Beckson's wounds wouldn't turn the TV off. They would go on the internet to learn why this happened, and get a better understanding of the situation before passing judgement, and if they are good at doing their homework, then they will forgive him.
Kevin Alloy, I urge you to reconsider your decision in this matter. I've talked with you many times off and on, and I consider you to be a fair man...
[...Leon clasped his hands together tightly...]
...If nothing else, let him win back his oppertunity against the runner up for that Title shot, and if he can beat the contender to be, then throw him against the Dangerous Champion on that same night. He may be blown up by the time he gets to the Champ, but at least he'd have a shot.
Well... I've said all I can say. Hopefully you'll take my words into consideration.
[...He then reached past the web cam, and with a soft click, the video feed cut and the show was over...]
