***OOC - I borrowed pretty liberally (ok I flat out stole) a few lines from Jack Nicholson's monologue in A Few Good Men. But really, has there ever been a better one?***
(Once again we open up to the 80s blue screen with Bane’s Ouroboros logo center screen prompting us for an impending Julian Beckson response. Julian has seen better days as his face is greatly bruised with the typical black eye and a nasty looking scar right below it. He is also wearing one of his own t-shirts covering up the damage done by Maurice Thompson’s bullwhip to his torso. We can tell by the expression on Beckson’s face that he is less than pleased with the situation at hand, a point further accentuated by his very low speaking, and yet eerily calm voice.)
Bane:
So… it would appear I have a lot to respond to after Death of a Ladies Man even though the only thing I did that night was my job. I went out there and issued my apology just like management asked, I answered Mr. Clear’s questions after he cornered me in the back, and I went out and defended my belt by obliterating our human toy, Max Turbo. I did what I was asked to do and earned my paycheck. That is all. I did nothing more and nothing less.
(Beckson takes a deep breath, possibly trying to keep himself calm.)
Bane:
Yet it would appear that some people are jealous of my success but realize that there is nothing that they can do about it. That fucking Squall… excuse me… Mr. Thompson can’t handle the fact that I am recognized as the greatest in this league and that no matter who might have stepped into the ring to face me, they have fallen quite short are their attempts to stop or dethrone me.
(Again, he takes another deep breath. Beckson is no longer looking into the camera either, instead deciding to stare down at the floor giving us a very clear view of the scar running across the bridge of his nose and forehead.)
Bane:
So Mr. Thompson decides to take matters into his own hands and viciously attack me from behind after the match with a bullwhip, a bottle of rubbing alcohol, and a complete lack of courage. Apparently, Mr. Thompson had some issues with some things I said and decided to take matters into his own hands even after my apology earlier in the evening.
(Without lifting his head at all, Beckson glares straight into the camera.)
Bane:
Kid, you did exactly what I expected you to do, alibi it was a little more violent than I had anticipated, but you took the cowards way out and had to attack me from behind. You and I both know why you did that too. We both know that you know you have no chance to hurt me face to face on equal terms. You need every advantage that you can get, and you sure did seize your opportunity. And because you have the balls the size of a cockroach, you have to pay the price for your actions.
And this is where things really start to get interesting.
You have been appropriately handed down two forms of punishment. You have been fined for the first level as the rules state, and have moved onto the second level where your Dangerous Championship match has been stripped from you. Your easily predictable reaction is to throw a hissy fit like a child and refuse to responsibility for your actions. And quite ironically, you have some supporters in your corner that I wouldn’t have guessed might have backed you up in Leon Corella and Henry Spikes. But I’ll get to them soon enough.
I want to talk about your punishment first. You are bitching and moaning that you are being punished for your actions while nothing has ever been done to me. Well, I have to admit that you are correct. I have not been punished at all for my actions. And do you want to know why I haven’t?
It’s because I’ve done nothing wrong.
I’ve followed every rule in this league, done everything that the fed heads have asked me to do, and I have not done anything that would merit any form of punishment. So you might not agree with what I say nor do you like my views about you or your people. Tough shit. You’re going to have to learn to deal with it. It is my constitutional right to be able to say what I want to say about who I want to say it about. Just because you don’t like my words doesn’t give you, or anyone, the right to censor them. You want to do something about it, then do it, but do it legally or else you will get punished.
(Julian lifts his head up now and continues to stare directly into the camera.)
Bane:
And punished you were. Yet for some reason, both Mr. Spikes and Mr. Corella think that the said punishment is too harsh. Neither one has a problem with the fine but they don’t think it’s fair that you’ve been stripped of your title match. They didn’t mention your match against Complete Control but you’ve already shown your complete red and yellow belly by crying and wanting to face Kevin Alloy instead of them. Wow, you’re even more chicken-shit than I initially thought, Maurice. You want to face a man who is recovering from a broken hand he received about a month or so ago. Way to step up to a fight.
But let’s get back to Mr. Spikes and Mr. Corella’s comments. You say it’s not fair that he has been stripped of his title shot, that that punishment was unjust because Thompson has… “earned”… that title shot. I’m telling you this right now: Thompson is lucky with his punishment that the brass handed down. You see, after the assault I received in the ring, I was planning on going straight to the police and filing charges. And I can almost guarantee you that Thompson’s punishment would have been a lot worse. It’s quite evident that Maurice didn’t just “snap” and attack me because he was mentally unstable. Oh no, that was all premeditated as evident to the bullwhip and the rubbing alcohol he brought with him that night. And while my words might have insulted him, in no way did I ever make a threat towards his or his girlfriend’s lives so I can’t be blamed for his actions. And it is a sure-fire win for me, everything is on tape. Now you tell me since you think the punishment was too harsh, how long would have been for him to get his title shot if he is sitting in jail? A year maybe? Possibly two? At least he will probably have the chance to earn another title shot in the near future with all of the affirmative action floating around these days. And it will come a lot sooner since the management convinced me to not press charges.
I will say this, though. If Maurice refuses his punishment, don’t think I won’t follow through with my initial plans of going to the police. You should take THAT into consideration when thinking about Maurice’s punishment as being too heavy.
(Julian pauses for a second before he continues.)
Bane:
The final thing I want to address is Corella specifically and everyone’s response about what they see when they tune in for the first time. Corella brought up the fact that I accidently broke Jerome’s mother finger when she came to my door. While I regret having to take that action (Julian sneers) I will say it was in self defense when she assaulted me as well. Yes, the words I spoke might have been a little harsh but if you watch, you will see that woman laying her hands on me first, not the other way around. I have every right to protect myself when I am being threatened and assaulted and that’s what I did. Thank God the cameras were around at that time to catch that or I might have been in big trouble.
(Julian chuckles slightly after that last comment.)
Bane:
There is one thing you don’t seem to understand, Corella, and I’m beginning to think maybe this is why you were always “held down” in other promotions that you were in. You think I’m bad for ratings and that our viewers tune out whenever they see me on TV or in the ring.
You couldn’t be more wrong.
I will concede to the fact that I don’t think a lot of people like me. I’m pretty sure that you’re right when you imply that the majority of viewers probably despise me. But while my existence might sicken and disgust you and the viewers, it remains a fact that you WANT me in that ring. You NEED me in that ring. I don’t hurt the ratings, I create them. When people see me, they want to see what I might do or say next and that keeps them watching. They need to see someone like Thompson or BA Jive or Max Turbo step into the ring with me and punish me for all of my sins. Every time they see me, they don’t turn away just in case someone just might make me pay for the things I say.
You should be thanking me Corella. If it wasn’t for me, do you think that this promotion would have lasted a month? A week even? I’m what kept this league going in the early days because I was hated so much that people needed to see what I say and do. If they didn’t sign me, and I am eternally grateful that they did give me a chance, you wouldn’t have had a job and continued looking around and bitching that all wrestling promoters are out to get you. Your bitching about backstage politics don’t make for compelling television, it’s quite boring in fact. However, when you get into the ring with me, you stop being the heel that everyone turns off when he shows up because there’s something more interesting to someone that is instantly loved because you are standing up against me.
You owe me, Corella. You owe me your livelihood.
(With that, the scene fades to black.)
