History and/or Personality:
Andrew Jackson Clermont was born to 16-year-old Heidi Clermont, a single mother. Throughout much of his childhood, he was what could be termed a military brat. It was natural that as soon as he was of age Clermont enlisted in the Canadian Army, where he was trained as a mechanic. His first assignment was as a peacekeeper in Bosnia in the mid-1990’s during the horrors of ethnic cleansing and civil war. During this period, he was narrowly missed by a sniper and was posted near the city of Srebernica shortly before the atrocities in 1995. Haunted by the massacre and unable to cope with the notion of being unable to stop it, Clermont was discharged from the armed forces following a failed suicide attempt.
Returning home, directionless, Clermont decided to follow a childhood passion by enrolling in a wrestling school in his native Saskatchewan as a coping mechanism where he met Glen Sand, his future mentor. It was also in this time frame where he met Derek Klisowski (the future Kyle Hayden / Ratt Klyczofvski) and Kevin Alloy. Taking the pseudonym “Jackson Hunter” or Jax, Hunter excelled in wrestling. In the wrestling boom of the late 90s, the newly forming OWC took an interest in the 6’ 8”, 400+ pound Sand. Sand accepted a contract, but only on the condition he be allowed to bring his prize pupil Jackson Hunter.
Hunter met with surprising success in the OWC, and in something of a perfect storm, managed to win the OWC World Championship after six months in the fed. Jax became famous for intense rivalries with Curt Olsen and Dale Stanwycz. It rapidly became clear that this was a case of “too much, too soon” for Jax as his life slowly spiraled out of control. He would break contracts and develop a dependency problem, alienating many of his former allies in the business. Following the birth of his first child in 2002, Hunter cleaned up his act, but the wrestling business had altered radically since the boom times. People were no longer beating down his door to sign him, and by the time Hunter finally secured a contract with the DCWL in 2003 his famous bitterness and misanthropy, combined with his PTSD, had begin to manifest themselves.
While previously Hunter had been viewed a cocky and brash star, in the DCWL he began to shed this image. Jax became a ruthless, win-at-all-costs monster. He sacrificed his marriage and relationship with his infant daughter, as well as his own health to stay afloat in the DCWL. Despite a Platinum Championship and two very long reigns as Grand Championship, Jackson Hunter was a wreck emotionally and physically. After losing the Grand Championship a second time at Cornerstone Revolution IV and betrayal by his former allies Kyle Hayden and Syn, and former lover Erica Toughill, Hunter quietly left the DCWL a wrecked shell of his former self.
Eighteen months later, after the DCWL’s restart, he has unfinished business to take care of.
