Team Bio: Danny was born on June 13, 1988 in the bustling city of Phoenix, Arizona. Danny's father, Jim was a big wrestling fan and would take Danny to a lot of Indy shows in the area. Jim worked in marketing, while Danny's mother Susan worked in retailing. They made the average middle America family, therefore, growing up Danny's biggest worry was his next exam or finding a date for Friday night.
There are no stories of sudden tragedy or disappointment in his upbringing, his life was rather simple. Going back to the wrestling, Danny would grow up watching, "Storm Warrior" Michael Navarro, "The Hussler" Thomas Williams, Team Airlift, and many other popular names to the Southwest region. Upon graduating from the South Mountain High School in 2006, Danny had the desire to begin his training to become a wrestler.
His parents aided Danny in paying for Danny to attend Michael Navarro's, "Vision Quest" school which is located on the outskirts of Phoenix. Navarro had bought a small warehouse in January 2003 in order to, "properly" train the next batch of wrestlers in the Southwest Region. the Gunderson family met with Navarro on a Saturday afternoon and agreed that Danny would start his training in July 2006.
Navarro being only 35 is still an active wrestler, yet he would have sessions for two hours on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 3 pm. If he could not make it his long time friend, "The Amazing" Cold Blood would run his sessions. Danny was excited, and worked the rest of June at a Doctor's office in order to help pay for his training.
Dr. Simmons was surprised to hear Danny was going to pursue a wrestling career, Dr. Simmons felt Danny could become a Dentist one day. He served as his assistant at his practice for over two years. Yet, Danny was not wavered from his goals and continued to work at the office while training. Michael Navarro was famous around Arizona, Southern California, and New Mexico for his technical prowess. Which he and Cold Blood focused on during their sessions. Sometimes Navarro would invite guest speakers to speak to his students, yet they rarely took part in the physical training of his students.
Danny joined six others in his training. Oddly enough there was one female in the class that Danny would become extremely close with, Julia Norwich. A gorgeous red head that also had a passion for wrestling. More on her later; Danny was the smallest male in the class. He only started training at 180 pounds, and all the other male trainees were at least 6'2''. They were Aaron Wilson, Dan Emerson, Gabe Lindsay, Christopher Kane, and Calvin Broughton.
Danny worked hard, often receiving some flak from the other guys for being so small and not as strong as the others. Calvin especially gave Danny a lot of grief, seeing how Danny and Julia would always hang out after sessions, Calvin got jealous. He wanted to hook up with Julia' who of course, would have no parts of it.
At the beginning of August, only one month into their training Calvin was trying to convince Julia to go on a date with him. Danny was just done changing when he saw Calvin grab Julia by the arm which resulted to Julia screaming, "Stop Calvin!" Danny bravely made his way towards Calvin(who toward over Danny being 6'4'' 220 at the time). Danny pushed Calvin, who responded by hitting Danny right in the face busting open his nose.
Navarro, Cold Blood, and Peter Swain(the promoter for Phoenix Pro Wrestling) heard the commotion and quickly pulled Calvin off of Danny who had rocked him with two more punches. They kept all three parties after the altercation, hearing all of their stories. After hearing the stories from Danny and Julia, Navarro was incensed. He would use Calvin as the one who would have Submissions demonstrated on during the next class, for the entire two hours.
Calvin and Danny would not speak to each other at all for the entire month of August. Julia was thankful for Danny being brave and standing up for her, which would cause their friendship to grow stronger. At the beginning of September, Navarro announced the weight lifting regiment each trainee would perform on Saturday and Sunday afternoon at noon. Navarro had a rather modest weight room in the back of the warehouse. On that day Navarro also announced he was chosen to go on a tour of Italy and France for three weeks, the shows were bringing together Canadian, American, Japanese, Italian, Swiss, and French wrestlers for 13 cards over the 21 day period. Cold Blood was going to take over the training for the rest of September.
The physical training was not as intense with Cold Blood acting as Head Trainer, he would have many of his wrestling contacts from the area to come in and speak to the seven trainees about their experiences. Many of which seemed impressed by the enthusiasm Danny expressed about the business, Calvin would actually begin insulting one particular worker Big Dawg Cole, a 6'6'' 280 pound ebonic speaking badass. Calvin thought his choice of language was an insult to black people(Yes, Calvin is black).
This altercation would lead to Calvin getting tossed around the ring for five minutes in an "exhibition". Calvin also black balled himself with the Southern California Federation where Cole was the Champion of at the time, and the Arizona Intense Wrestling where Cole was a regular participant and a Main Eventer of. Danny took a little enjoyment watching Calvin destroying his career, as he wished he could get revenge for the three punches Calvin got on him.
The rest of the speakers for the month would talk about respecting those in the business, and would usually eye Calvin. Once Navarro returned, and got a report on the happenings of the month. He pulled Danny aside and told him if he continued his good work he would get him some bookings in Phoenix Pro Wrestling after he graduated from his school. Danny was catching on quickly with the technical style, and spent a lot of his free time watching tapes of other prominent technicans at the time. He became a fan of Johnny Pain and surprisingly became a fan of NJWF wrestlers Jin and Jun Kazyang due to their technical prowess through the videos he could find online of them.
The next few months went rather smoothly and by the end of February 2007, Navarro ended the formal classes saying the class was ready to start their careers. Oddly enough, nobody had dropped out. Danny had gained twenty pounds of muscle and had a good solid technical background and decent understanding of ring strategy. As promised Navarro got Danny some booking in Phoenix Pro Wrestling. Julia and Gabe also received instant bookings in Phoenix Pro. Danny would also get bookings in the Arizona Intese Wrestling as well.
Danny found that actually competing was a lot different that training, he found himself on the losing end of his first twelve matches without offering up much offense. He traveled with Julia, whom now has become his best friend. She found things a little better teaming with a known name in the region Minerva Allman who was showing her the ropes.
Danny's first match of notice came in June 2007 when he and a worker named Ice Blade faced "The Amazing" Cold Blood and "Storm Warrior" Michael Navarro the two responsible for his training. While Ice Blade generated most of the offense, Danny surprised his trainers by coming up with some plunky offense and getting some near falls with School Boys and Small Packages.
A rookie mistake cost Danny the match and he would fall to Navarro's Vision Quest. Yet, many were impressed by Danny's performance and it would lead to him getting some more bookings. Which would lead to him facing his rival during training Calvin Broughton at a Supercard for the California Slam Promotion which was is under the International Wrestling Organization banner. While the match was the opening bought it was a big break for both as Calvin had been competing in the California scene. The group known as, "The Faction" had added Calvin as a member and tought him many underhanded tactics. One of the members, "California Pride" Lewis Barton came to the ring with Calvin. Julia would accompany Danny, the show was on July 12, 2007.
Danny and Calvin would go at each other hard for over 15 minutes, with Calvin(who now weighed 250) throwing around Danny using cheap shots and what not to embarass Danny, Calvin would also make suggest comments and gestures towards Julia. Barton would get a few cheap shots in on Danny as well, to say the least Danny had the crowd behind him.
He would surprise Danny and quickly roll him up into an Ankle Lock, that was so quick trapped Danny in the middle of the ring forcing him to submit. Giving Danny his third and biggest win of his career. Former ICWF wrestler Inferno also wrestled on the show, and was greatly impressed with Danny that he approached him after the show offering his guidance to the young wrestler.
Danny accepted the offer, and over the next few months Inferno would train Danny(and Julia) adding new elements to their offense. Inferno would help both include some high flying techniques into their attack, which would make them harder to scout. Danny and Inferno would start teaming up on the Southwest Region calling themselves, "The Amber Union". Inferno would get Danny new tights, boots, elbow, and wristbands to match his own. Danny's would include red flames on the orange as Inferno saw a fire within his new protege.
The Amber Union would actually win the New Mexico Tag Team Titles in January 2008, in Champions Pro in New Mexico. The team had been working together since August, and made great strides to become tag champions. They would lose the titles after only two defenses in March, but it was a great experience for Danny. The Amber Union would lose a number one contenders match in May in the California Slam Promotion against The Faction group. Due to Calvin hitting Danny in the back of the head with a led pipe giving the victory to "California Pride" Lewis Barton and "The Best Thing Ever" Christopher Jarvis.
Inferno took Danny down with him to Mexico in July, where the team would compete against solid Luchador competiton picking up some good victories. They would participate on 10 shows and ended up 5-5. Not all were tag matches, as they had a couple of 3 on 3 matches. The Lucha Libre style was a surprise to Danny, and helped him slow down the action in the ring. In September, Patrick Shade approached Inferno about returning to the ICWF. Inferno quickly accpeted, and promised Danny he would put in a good word for him at the ICWF offices. Danny and Julia decided to head back to the Vision Quest at the end of September to do some more training with Navarro and Cold Blood. Their trainers told the two how proud they were of their students.
Danny and Julia would run into Aaron Wilson and Gabe Lindsay who also stopped by to do some more training and give some words of wisdom to Navarro's and Blood's new group of students. After a few weeks the group decided to get back on the road and travel together, with a lot of the conversation being around Danny's possible trip to the ICWF. Danny, Aaron, and Gabe started to team together. Two would participate in matches, while the other would serve as manager.
This lasted for a few months until Danny never got a call from Inferno. Who seemingly forgot about Danny once he made it back to the ICWF. In the beginning of December an ICWF Scout saw Danny and Aaron Wilson wrestle in Arizona. They were signed to ICWF, and after some time there were released from their contract. Danny and Aaron decided to contact their friend Gabe Lindsay who had been wrestling on lower level Lucha Libre shows in Mexico under a mask as, "Mr. Mass." They decided to send in video to the DCWL and received a contract and are hoping to impress enough to get a SPW Developmental Deal soon.
